Security Engineer

We have an exciting Fixed term contractor opportunity (12 months) for an experienced and motivated Security Engineer to join our Cyber & Information Security team and play a key role in building, maintaining and optimising the security infrastructure that protects our people, our products, and our patients.

  • Hands-on engineering role building and optimising the security controls.
  • Work alongside our architects, security operations and threat intelligence teams in a supportive, high-trust environment
  • Fixed Term Contract - 12 months

About the Role

In this role you’ll work shoulder to shoulder with our security engineers, architects, security operations and threat intelligence teams to keep our defences sharp and well-tuned. You’ll have the chance to see how what you do helps to improve the lives and wellbeing of the patients we treat.

If you’re someone who likes to roll up your sleeves, gets satisfaction from solving hard problems, and takes pride in leaving systems better than you found them, then this could be for you.

Day to day, you’ll be designing, deploying and tuning security controls across our environment, and partnering with the wider ICT team to make sure our security capabilities are well integrated, well understood, and operationally sound. You’ll work closely with our architects on roadmap initiatives, with our SOC and intelligence analysts on detection and response improvements, and with our infrastructure and platform teams on the day-to-day reality of running things in production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, configure and maintain security tooling across our environment
  • Partner with security architects to translate strategy and reference designs into working, well-documented infrastructure.
  • Support security operations and threat intelligence functions.
  • Tune, harden and continuously improve existing.
  • Lead and contribute to security-focused change requests, and project deliverables.
  • Troubleshoot complex security issues across our environment.

About You

You’ll be an experienced, pragmatic engineer who enjoys building things that work and getting work done. When something’s broken, unclear, or could be better, you don’t wait to be asked — you dig in, figure it out, and bring others along with you.

You’re comfortable moving between strategy and the keyboard, and equally comfortable talking to a vendor, an architect, or a colleague who isn’t technical. You take ownership, follow through, and care about doing things properly.

Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in security engineering, infrastructure engineering or a closely related technical role
  • Strong, hands-on experience with enterprise security technologies
  • A track record of delivering security infrastructure work end-to-end.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Comfortable working independently and within a team.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
