NZ Health and Safety Manager

Join a team of good people doing good work with intent. People like you, who care to make a difference!

About Us

Fisher & Paykel Healthcare’s purpose is improving care and outcomes through inspired and world leading healthcare solutions. We achieve this by bringing care and intentionality to everything we do – through product research and design, our quality systems, manufacturing, supply, customer support and our commitment to our people.

Care by Design is the way we do business, and this includes our approach to health & safety.

We do this because people are our most important asset at F&P. Good health and safety at work secures long-term benefits for our people, our business and the communities that we all work and live in.

The Role

Fisher & Paykel Healthcare’s New Zealand business is multifaceted and requires an in-depth understanding of its operations and interdependencies to support our leaders to drive the continuous improvement of health & safety.

You will have the autonomy to lead a team of dedicated health & safety professionals. This includes an on-site occupational health centre that supports our strong team of close to 4000 employees based at our only New Zealand campus in Highbrook, Auckland. The role reports to the General Manager – Group Risk Advisory and Health, Safety & Wellbeing.

The role requires alignment with our People Policy to improve the safety of work. You will champion an open and positive culture based on trust and mutual respect and implement balanced performance metrics that provide insights into the actual state of H&S across our operations.

You will lead initiatives that focus on improving operational safety, emphasising activities that enhance the safety of work rather than administrative tasks. Your leadership will support a continuous improvement mindset and foster a culture of learning from when things don’t go well and equally being curious about why they succeed.

This role is pivotal in driving our refreshed Health & Safety strategy, which places Care by Design at its core. Our aspiration is to create empathetic, emotional, and deep connections with our people through a simplified and engaging approach to H&S.

About You

You bring significant people management experience, having successfully led large teams, developed talent, and fostered a high-performance culture. Your leadership style inspires and motivates others, and you are committed to building inclusive, collaborative, and resilient teams that thrive in dynamic environments.

You have a track record of developing and implementing strategies, managing stakeholder expectations and influencing and supporting business leaders.

Essential for this role:

  • Proven ability to lead the development and performance of a highly effective team that improves the safety of work.
  • Effective at engaging and influencing at a senior management level.
  • Demonstrated record of developing and implementing health & safety strategies.
  • Working knowledge and experience in health & safety management systems and the New Zealand Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
  • Minimum 10 years' senior manager experience within a large or global organisation.
  • A fresh thinking approach and the ability to drive continuous improvement.
  • A tertiary qualification.
