About this opportunity
As an Intellectual Property (IP) Engineer you'll work with our product development teams to identify, capture and protect the IP that is critical to Fisher & Paykel Healthcare's continued success. In this role you will work with Product Design Engineers to understand and expand their inventions, and collaborate with them on alternate design approaches. This will be your focus, along with patent research and technical writing.
As part of your development on this exciting career path, you will be exposed to our products and technologies along with training toward registration as a Trans-Tasman Patent Attorney. You will be supported in this development by an experienced IP team.
We’re open to applicants at different stages of their career - whether you’re a final year undergraduate or postgraduate student, or you bring 2-3 years of relevant industry or IP experience.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- An undergraduate or postgraduate engineering degree, or be a student completing your studies by the end of 2026, specialising in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical or Computer Systems Engineering (or an equivalent physical science)
- A passion for technology and its commercial potential
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- An aptitude for document level research
- Excellent communication skills and the ability and desire to write well
- High attention to detail
- Tenacity
- Result driven and a positive outlook
