The Role


Reporting to the NZ Health Safety & Wellbeing Manager, we are looking for an engineer who will ensure there are processes in place to consider safety aspects of the design phase of machinery and the safety of those workers while it is constructed. You do not need to be an expert on specific safety system design. 


Your stakeholders will be Process Development Engineers and the role is important in influencing them in safety practices that align with internal requirements and supports business compliance with health and safety regulations. 

You will promote occupational health and safety (OHS) in the workplace, advise and partner with business stakeholders to meet internal requirements that support overall business compliance. 


You will be a generalist across many aspects of OHS including monitoring potential occupational health and safety risks, investigating incidents, training employees, developing safety processes, and inspecting machines and equipment. 


You will lead, coach and build partnerships that promote continuous improvement and empower our people to take ownership of health and safety. Supporting your business unit with event investigation, training in health and safety systems, health and safety committee, audit and safety observations, employee engagement program via HSC, lab focus group, and other initiatives.

The ideal applicant will bring the following skills and competencies to the role:

  • Mechatronics engineer 
  • Safety Electronics engineer or Automation/safety engineer 
  • Health and Safety experience or at least some exposure
  • Experience working within research & development and/or manufacturing environment
  • Experience with LEAN manufacturing principles (PDCA, Value stream mapping, line layouts etc.)
